Mysuru - Srirangapatna - Mysuru
Date: 3 February 2022
Mode: Honda Jazz
This trip was a impromptu decision due to some unavoidable situations during those times. We decided to spend few days in Mysuru at our close relative place and thanks to covid work from home flexibility you can literally work from any part of world with good Internet connection.
The Plan
Started somewhere around 6:30pm in the evening, in peak traffic made a terrible mistake of missing KR market flyover which connects Mysuru road, had to take a detour & finally merge into Mysore Road at the end. The Bengaluru-Mysuru Road is under construction as I write this blog with most of the stretch converted to 6 lane road, so night drive is little risky at you would suddenly encounter deviations & turn on the way passing through the city. Finally around 10:30pm I had reached Mysuru passing all the hurdles and one break in between.
The Outline
I had been to Mysuru several times and had seen the usual iconic places like Palace, Zoo, KRS, Chamundi Hills... etc. So I had plan to cover Srirangapatna and surrounding places & explore Mysuru city during the current stay. Srirangapatna happens to be Tippu Sultans administrative place with many iconic & historic significant places around
We started our day by visiting to the famous Lord Krishna temple
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (Pancharanga Kshetram), Adiranga
From here we went towards Colonel Bailey's Dungeon, its prisoner cell where British war prisoners were kept by Tippu Sultan
Colonel Bailey's Dungeon
From here we head towards the old mosque which is under renovation
Tipu Sulthan prayer Masjid
We happen to be here during Saturday weekly market time, got some fresh vegetables grown around Kaveri River belt which was right in front of the mosque road. Next we went ahead after doing some vegetable shopping to Daria Daulat Bagh
Daria Daulat Bagh
At the other end of this garden we have Tippu Summer Palace where you can see various artifacts about Tippu & Hyderali period.
Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace And Museum
After this we had a lunch on the way to Ganjam area where our next tow destination Gumbaz & Nimishambha Temple are there.
Gumbaz-e-Shahi, Srirangapatna
Here you will find Tippu's and his entire families tombs
Sri Nimishambha Temple
So we called it a day and headed back home, I stayed here a week more, in those days we went to some well know parks & walking trails in Mysore
Kukkarahalli Lake Park
Lingambudhi Park
That's Mysuru High Court below
You can never finish all the iconic & historic places in Mysuru, its such a beautiful & historic city and the city has got its own calm vibes that we people from Bengaluru really miss in our IT concert jungle. There are few more places that I would like to cover like Nanjanagudu, Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary, Gapalswamy Temple and many more, Probably next time!
